Artist statement

This town centre members pottery has an array of experienced potters showing their work. You will be able to see sculpture and domestic ware in this varied collection.

Extended Bio

****** Georgi Gilpin of Georgi Makes ****** The founder of this studio pottery Georgi shares the space with members some of which are exhibiting alongside her work. Georgi studied 3D Design at Brighton University, specialising in ceramics, and now works as a full-time maker. Her tableware is informed by the contour lines of Ordnance Survey maps, exploring how layered lines stack and flow into one another to create a sense of movement across each form. Her practice balances playfulness with functionality, resulting in pieces that are both practical and expressive. Georgi works with clay bodies that echo the local landscape — from the rich peat soils of Dartmoor to the iron-red cliffs of the Devon coastline. She has developed her own range of glazes to evoke horizons and shifting landscapes, using colours drawn directly from the surrounding countryside. All work is fired to stoneware in electric kilns, producing durable, everyday objects rooted in place and process. Alongside functional wares she is working on an arts funded sculptural project exploring our relationship to moths, the unsung beauties of the night, in a project called Moth to Light. *********** Caroline Wakelin ********* Caroline is a Totnes based ceramacist producing beautiful home wares that connect with nature. Recent works use wild clay as decorative medium, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape. *********** Helena Peters Sculpture ************ I enjoy creating figurative and organic sculptures, mostly finished with clear wax treatment rather than glazed, to let the beauty of the raw clay stand out. Some of the pieces are cold finished to enhance the structural form of the sculpture. My work often incorporates materials from the local landscape or unusual finds.
