Artist statement
Gestural, painterly paintings of the urban scene and other interesting spaces and characters. Media varies between acrylic, oils, watercolour or printmaking. My style is inspired variously by children’s book illustration and animation of the 1960s, fashion illustration of the 40s and 50s and many artists such as John Piper and Francesco Guardi
Extended Bio
l have a background in Fine Art and Set Design for TV and film - mainly working in
London.
| later studied Illustration and Animation for an MA, worked as a Graphic
Artist and Art teacher and then returned to the West Country near where | grew up. Reconnecting to Fine Art, I paint nowadays with a loose gestural painterly style. I am most interested in mark making producing meaning and using a wandering scribbley line experimenting with expressing volumes and movement. But engendered by my Set Design experience and a spell working in Barcelona, I paint the urban scene
mostly, the serial vision of street spaces and intricate jumble of street furniture..
