Artist statement

Please pop by for a browse! I am a full-time artist and illustrator based in Exeter and my artwork takes the form of traditional black and white etchings and oil paintings. I often paint from life outdoors, or work on etchings in the studio. I'm interested in capturing the changing light, weather and nature including local scenes.

Extended Bio

Katy Jackson is a full time illustrator and artist. After completing her Art Foundation at Wimbledon School of Art she went on to study Illustration at Loughborough University, where her work focused on strong drawing skills, atmosphere and narrative. Having worked as an illustrator for 18 years she is now concentrating on her own artwork creating etchings and oil paintings. She is personally concerned with the subjects of nature and local environment and these are recurring themes in her work. ”My work explores landscape, atmosphere and the dynamic relationship between people and the natural world. Its wonder, complexity but also fragility and transient nature. I am interested in those fleeting atmospheric conditions that transform an ordinary scene into something memorable. Light is the starting point for my monotone etchings. Colour is the starting point for my paintings as it sets the tone and atmosphere and, for me, the emotion. Working in Oil paint gives me a depth of tone and colour I can’t achieve in other mediums.”
