Artist statement

Inspired by the Pop and Conceptual art movements Gary’s current work is a range of playful interventions with found imagery & objects to create & transform them into odd, curious & uncanny propositions. Kate’s paintings & mixed media work are connected to her love of nature and the wild. Experimental & abstract, energetic & peaceful.

Extended Bio

Gary Winters I’m broadly influenced by Pop Art, Conceptual Art and the history of photography; with an interest in expressing task and process, repetition and rhythm, and a layering of time. My work ranges across lens-based and print media, producing limited edition print works or one-off painted or collaged photographic pieces; often augmenting, disrupting and veiling pre-existing ‘found’ prints and images. I have recently made a pledge to work with and use the art materials, items and curios I have accumulated through my creative life – both as a stance and gesture towards consumption and also as a limiting device to generate forays into new processes and practices. At times this makes the output hard to pin down, and knowingly eclectic, a curious marriage of the media leading an idea or an idea explored through a material. Kate Bosence Kate has been practising painting for 10 years. Kate often works in an abstract and energetic way, taking her inspiration largely from the Devon landscape, Dartmoor and the coast of Cornwall where she grew up. Her paintings are an expression of the energy or feel of the landscape, the dramatic sky, the seasons and the weather elements with a sense of being out in the wilderness, the feeling of the wind on your face or the salty air on your skin but most of all Kate aims to capture the sense of the vast open space of skies, open land and sea, to create her atmospheric paintings. Kate is currently studying Painting, drawing and printmaking at Arts university Plymouth where she is exploring a variety of mediums and materials including ceramics. She will be exhibiting her University work alongside her painting collection at the Devon open studios 2026.
