Extended Bio
Edge of the Teign is a collective group of artists who all live and work on or near the River Teign.
Although we normally work in our own studios and workshops, we love to come together for the Devon Open Studios event enjoying the opportunity to connect with each other, be inspired by the location and share our art with visitors.
Ours is very much a working space, when you visit, you will find us actively working on our latest projects as well as surrounded by beautiful work for sale.
With a large open space outside to enjoy views of Dartmoor and the Teign Estuary, we are also lucky to be next to the popular Woodshed Coffee Bar for a wide range of refreshments throughout the day.
We look forward to welcoming you to our venue.
Angela, Annie, Charlotte, Tina and Yvonne
Angela
I want my work to be used and enjoyed. A great compliment is when I hear someone say that my mug is their favourite for their early morning cup of tea.
I spend a lot of time experimenting with different decorating techniques, sometimes the results are exciting but there are also many disappointments. Pottery is never dull.
My pots are mostly thrown on the wheel and then decorated using coloured slips and glazes. I love decoration, all types: geometric, realistic, stencils, printed and so it goes on. If you have an idea, there is usually a way of making it – the possibilities of clay are endless.
Annie
I specialise in highly realistic artwork; the animal brings all of the power and presence.
My job as the artist, is to be a conduit. So much more than a picture on your wall, artwork like this reminds us of our love for the natural world. Animals are accessible, understandable, and open. My work reflects this, invites people in, welcomes and connects us through a shared love of wildlife.
Charlotte
I design and make distinctive precious metal jewellery using traditional techniques and practices, tools and, as much as possible, recycled materials.
Every piece of jewellery is made by hand, in very small edition production runs with many pieces guaranteed to be ‘one off’ designs. Bold, dramatic, intricate and delicate but also having a strong sense of story, my jewellery collections and bespoke commissions are all created to be treasured.
Tina
Working from my estuary-side studio in Shaldon, I create sculptural figurative pieces, formed intuitively and often with abstract representation and elements of storytelling and humour.
Remembered fragments of my wandering travels, my playful inner child and a career working therapeutically with people are key influences, seen reflected in characters, icons, mythology, metaphor and suggested emotion.
My signature matte tactile finishes are informed by the rugged textures of the surrounding natural landscapes.
Yvonne
I feel so fortunate to call the beautiful county of Devon my home. The rolling hills, stunning coastline, and ever-changing colours of nature are a constant source of inspiration for my creativity.
With a background in fashion and textiles, I have taught dressmaking for many years. My love for making runs deep, and I’m passionate about sharing the joy of creativity through teaching, crafting, and hosting sewing retreats.
Creativity is a wonderful journey – come and learn more about my one-of-a-kind experiences designed to nurture your creative spirit and provide a supportive community of women who share a passion for making.
