Artist statement

Join three talented artists in their garden studio for a superb show. Sue Side, SGFA, creates atmospheric drawings & etchings of tree, land & sky. She is also a portrait artist. Nick Withers, a renowned wildlife photographer, captures stunning moments from our natural world. Sarah Holder makes the most beautiful ceramics in a spontaneous, expressive way.

Sue Side, SGFA, creates atmospheric drawings and etchings that explore the dynamic relationship between trees, land, and sky. Her work is in several private collections, and she is an elected member of The Society of Graphic Fine Art and WHOBID Art Society. Sue has been selected to exhibit in several national exhibitions. Her artwork is characterised by moments of quiet tension, with each piece capturing landscapes filled with both peace and unrest. The atmosphere within her works is simultaneously still and turbulent, evoking a sense that something unseen is present just beneath the surface. Sue is also a much-respected portrait artist, creating graphite pencil portraits that focus on the subtle ways people look, speak, and gesture. Nick Withers, a renowned wildlife photographer based in the UK, specialises in capturing stunning moments from our natural world, focusing on native species. He is an official photographer for the Green Gathering, an off-grid, family-friendly festival in South Wales, and his work has been published and featured in several exhibitions. Nick’s career has been spent immersed in nature, allowing him to appreciate its colours, patterns, randomness, and beauty every day. Wildlife photography is his absolute passion and is exclusively UK-based. Nick also offers photography workshops, nature walks, and nature-based therapy workshops. Sarah Holder is a talented ceramicist whose work is highly sought after by gallerists and collectors. After initial training in Textile Design, Sarah studied Fine Arts majoring in Ceramics in New Zealand. Upon returning to the UK, she bought a kiln and began creating her distinctive ceramic pieces, drawing inspiration from her garden and the Devon landscape. She works in a spontaneous, expressive way, combining texture and pattern with an organic earthiness, aiming to capture the essence of our rich and varied landscape in her creations. Sarah’s creative talents have also been utilised in wig making and the design and making of theatre props. Visitors are welcome to simply enjoy the exhibition and the garden views or leave with a unique piece of art that can be cherished for years to come.
