Artist statement

Three artists inspired by the landscape of Dartmoor: Kate is an artist printmaker exploring the otherworldly and folkloric landscape. Helen is a mixed media textile artist using salvaged or natural materials to make functional or decorative pieces. Paula combines materials including wild clay to make small unique tactile vessels with a connection to place.

Extended Bio

Kate, Helen and Paula are artists all deeply concerned about the environment and try to find responsible ways to work with the land whilst using recycled materials where possible. Kate often uses UK made recycled paper and vegetable printing inks that can be cleaned up with water, whilst she experiments making her own paper and inks from foraging small amounts of moorland grasses, flowers and berries. She also makes collages with her misprints. Helen is motivated by the wild environment and her garden. Her ethos is “Sow Sew Weave Grow”. Paula’s starting point is always the clay itself, not making for purpose or function, she is increasingly interested in more sculptural shapes, being led by the clay, letting new narratives be created. ‘Clay found, Held and turned.
